This is our first blog post in 2016, and long may it continue! Fashion trends are constantly changing but if you walk the streets of Nairobi one thing never seems to; the number of beautiful women dressed stylishly beggars belief, but it is true. They seem to have a knack of picking just the right outfit and make it look effortless. If not fashionable they succeed in creating a trend all of their own.
For the rest of us that end result is very difficult to achieve. So to even out the odds I decide to try the internet, our endless saviour. And lo and behold I stumbled onto this article in the Nation. Knowing that there are quite a few women like myself out there I decided to share this advice. I hope this helps you as much as it did me and good luck staying on trend this year!!
Whether as a pencil, full circular skirt or dress, midi skirts are great for that retro inspired classy and ladylike style silhouette. They are best paired with satin frilly blouses in solid colours.
Perhaps the most unexpected trend on this list, distressed denim was one of this year’s biggest casual trends. Easily worn paired with other fabrics or worn denim on denim, it’s a definite closet must have.
From crop tops to sheer dresses, 2015 trends were all about sexy in revealing ways. 2016 is more about a sexy undercurrent, fun girl-next-door pieces with a splash of boho chic. These seven trends are a must have for your New Year wardrobe.
Black out: All-white makes a powerful comeback in a series of stylish dresses and tops that are city appropriate. The white shirt dress is an all year round must-have. From flowy mesh dresses to more tailored tops, keep an eye out for a favourite cut, and then find it in white.
Flower power: Hot weather undoubtedly calls for florals especially in warm bright colours like shades of red, pink, orange and yellow. Experiment with layers and different textures for a fun easy to achieve look.
Fringe benefits: Fringe has been trending for a few seasons now and it’s definitely something we want to see come back. Playful, bohemian and sexy; fringe adds that much needed statement piece to an outfit. Fan favourite tip; It looks best on a sexy pair of heels or on the hem of a little dress.
Midi me: Whether as a pencil, full circular skirt or dress, midi skirts are great for that retro inspired classy and ladylike style silhouette. They are best paired with satin frilly blouses in solid colours, minimal jewellery and most importantly at least a five inch heel to elongate and balance you out.
Distressed denim: Perhaps the most unexpected trend on this list, distressed denim was one of this year’s biggest casual trends. Easily worn paired with other fabrics or worn denim on denim, it’s a definite closet must have for its comfort and universal appeal. Pair it with a white pair of platform brogues for a casual look or a pointy toe stiletto heel for a more dressed up look.
Print on print: Is a bold and beautiful statement for the fierce femme fatale who enjoys making a statement. The key rule with this trend is balance. Go for prints that don’t overwhelm your body. Remember, you wear the clothes not the other way around.
What trend are you most looking forward to add to your wardrobe?
